INTERACTION
Acenocoumarol
CAS number 152-72-7
The following medicines increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol
and the dose of acenocoumarol may need to be reduced:-
- alcohol, allopurinol, amiodarone, propafenone, fluconazole, disulfiram,
zafirlukast, raloxifene, acitretin, sulfinpyrazone, cimetidine, ritonavir
- anti-platelet drugs
- anabolic steroids
- azapropazone, phenylbutazone (avoid use with acenocoumarol)
- prolonged paracetamol use
- antibiotics cefamandole, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin, nalidixic
acid, cotrimoxazole and sulphonamides, metronidazole, miconazole,
clarithromycin, erythromycin and azithromycin
- hormone drugs danazol, flutamide, tamoxifen, testosterone, thyroid
hormones,
- lipid lowering fibrates
- occasionally influenza vaccine
- NSAIDS, particularly diclofenac, flurbiprofen and tolmetin can enhance the
anticoagulation effect of acenocoumarol and can increase the risk of
bleeding due to their irritant effect on the stomach.
Quinidine may either enhance or reduce the effect of acenocoumarol.
The following medicines reduce the anticoagulant effect of acenocoumarol:-
rifampicin, carbamazapine, phenobarbitone, griseofulvin, barbiturates,
aminoglutethimide, vitamin K
