Atomoxetine Hcl (Cas no 82248-59-7) DRUG DESCRIPTION (atomoxetine HCl) is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Atomoxetine HCl is the R(-) isomer as determined by x-ray diffraction. The chemical designation is (-)-N-Methyl-3-phenyl-3-(o-tolyloxy)-propylamine hydrochloride. The molecular formula is C17H21NO•HCl, which corresponds to a molecular weight of 291.82.Atomoxetine HCl is a white to practically white solid, which has a solubility of 27.8 mg/mL in water. Atomoxetine is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It reduces ADHD symptoms by blocking or slowing reabsorption of norepinephrine, a brain chemical considered important in regulating attention, impulsivity, and activity levels. Atomoxetine is not a controlled substance, and in an abuse-potential study in adults, Atomoxetine was not associated with stimulant or euphoriant properties. Atomoxetine to placebo have shown statistically significant improvement in symptoms of ADHD. However, the safety and efficacy of Atomoxetine in pediatric patients younger than 6 years of age have not been established.
